A man's grieve tends to be different from him wifes. While I may have not cried, I still mourned the loss of our child. When I held my wife close while she sobbed on my shoulder, I was thinking what it could have been like to throw batting practice with my son or take him to Virginia Tech football games, all of the things a father looks forward to that I would not get a chance to do!
Even though your child is gone, you are still a father! Here are a few things that I reminded myself...
Fathers bond with their babies differently than a mother does. A father's grief may appear muted, or not as concering as the Mother's, they are still grieving!
If you feel less sadness that the mother, you have not done anything wrong. It means you simply may not have an opportunity to bond closely with that lost baby.
You are still a father even if you baby died. You were willing and able to do all the things a father does for his children.
Your baby's mother needs you during this difficult time. Reassure her that you will still love her, always! She needs to feel your emotional and physical presence.
Always remember, it's ok to grieve and/or cry! You need time too!
